"Folkloric Scenes" 1982

Three years after its inception, El-Funoun presented its first complete work, titled “Folkloric Scenes”. In preparing for this milestone production, the Troupe’s writer, choreographers and artistic director conducted extensive field research in four Palestinian villages, gathering folkloric and traditional tunes and songs to be used as raw material for writing the lyrics and choreographing the dances. This production consisted of a number of songs and dances that were heavily influenced by folklore, and were not connected by any theme or scenario. This production’s smashing popularity immediately made El-Funoun a prominent name in this field. It is also worth noting that this performance received the First Prize in the Popular Dance Festival Contest, held at Birzeit University in 1982.
